BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced on Friday that Riley Bowers has transferred to UB. Bowers comes to Buffalo from Ohio State and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are ecstatic to welcome Riley back home to Buffalo," said head coach Shawn Burke. "I've known Riley since she was nine years old and the one constant that remains true today is her work ethic. Our program is gaining an exceptionally talented and skillful midfielder who will have an immediate impact on this team and get us one step closer to our ultimate team goals."
A native of Clarence Center, NY, Bowers played her first two season of her college career at Ohio State. Bowers was a member of the Buckeyes squad that earned the outright Big Ten title in 2017 and was twice named Academic All-Big 10 Scholar Athlete. As a freshman, Bowers played in 19 matches off the bench, recording one assist against the Bulls and scored a career-high two goals against Illinois. Bowers saw time in six matches during her sophomore campaign, playing a season-high 40 minutes in a win over Morehead State.
A Clarence High School graduate, Bowers was a four-year starter, three time All-Western New York selection and a three time Section VI Erie County first team all-star. She was also a two-time NYSPHSSA Far West Regional Champion and a two-time NYSPHSSA state semifinalist. Off the field, Bowers was a member of the National Honor Society and was a four year member of the high honor roll as well as a four-time recipient of the NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Award.
Bowers also has six years of club experience, spending two guided by Aaran Lines and Rob Ferguson with the Western New York Flash Academy. She was named to the NSCAA Youth Soccer All-East Region team in 2016 and a TeamSnap New York State All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and has been a member of the ODP Region 1 pool since 2012.
"We have prided ourselves on building this program with local talent and making UB a destination school for Western New York athletes," stated Burke. "Riley is another indication of the direction of our program and how top talent wants to win here!"
