KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After being named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region First Team on Monday, the accolades continue to role in for University at Buffalo women's soccer senior Gurjeena Jandu as she was voted to the organization's Scholar All-America Third Team on Wednesday.
Jandu is just the second Bull in women's soccer program history to be named to a Scholar All-America team, joining Jackie Hall who received that honor in 2014.
To be named to the Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.
"We've known all along the impact Gurjeena has had on the field and in the classroom for this program," said head coach Shawn Burke. "With all her recent accolades, and this one in particular, the rest of the country now knows as well. A true leader, Gurjeena is a glowing example of what our student-athletes strive for and can accomplish."
An exercise science major with a 3.418 GPA, Jandu was the catalyst for a strong UB defense as she helped the Bulls secure six clean sheets on the season while holding opponents to 1.05 goals-against per game. The senior captain also contributed on the offensive end, recording one goal and three assists on 13 shots in 18 starts for the Bulls. Also a four-time All-MAC, First Team All-Midwest Region and three-time Academic All-MAC selection, Jandu proved to be one of the best defenders in the conference in her four years in Buffalo.
