
Volleyball Adds Four For Upcoming Season

BUFFALO, NY – Second-year volleyball coach Blair Brown Lipsitz has announced the addition of four newcomers who will join the Bulls for the 2016 season. The newcomers are Allison Boskat, Maddie Torbeck, Lauren Slavoski, and Rachel Sanks. They join four additional newcomers who signed NLI's back in November.
Boskat is a 6-1 middle blocker/right side from Jamestown, NY who recorded 232 kills in 75 sets as a senior, while adding 50 blocks, 370 digs and 26 total aces. She was named first-team All-ECIC Division I and a WNY Scholar Athlete. She played her club volleyball for JAVA (Jamestown Area Volleyball Athletes) and the Buffalo Volleyball Academy.
"We are always excited to bring local kids into the program and with Ally we are getting a raw athlete who is extremely eager to learn," said Lipsitz. "I think she has s high upside and we are looking forward to seeing what she can do when she comes to campus this summer."
Torbeck is a 5-3 defensive specialist from Cincinnati, OH where she played at Saint Ursula Academy, being named to the All-Star Team. Torbeck played in 71 sets during her senior season, averaging 5.46 digs per set. She finished with 44 digs in a five-set match against Ursuline Academy in late September. Torbeck has played her club volleyball for both Elevation Volleyball Club and the Cincy Classics Volleyball Club. At Elevation, Torbeck plays with fellow incoming freshman Taina Benitez.
"Maddie is a fiery individual who has a commanding presence on the court," said Lipsitz. "She plays with high energy and will bring a great mentality to our gym. She is able to keep points going with her athleticism and we cannot wait to see what she brings in the fall."
Slavoski is a 5-10 outside hitter from Shavertown, PA where she played at Holy Redeemer High School. She helped lead her team to a 17-0 record as a senior as she finished the year with 343 kills, 26 blocks and 63 digs. Slavoski was named to the Times Leader All-Star Team and the Citizens Voice All-Star team three times, and twice she was the Times Leader Conference MVP. Slavoski's teams won four conference and district championships. She played her club volleyball for the Synergy Volleyball Club and the Anthracite Volleyball Academy.
"Lauren can do it all and be a six-rotation player for us," said Lipsitz. "She has a heavy arm, can score from all positions on the court, and remains dedicated to being a great defender. Lauren has the ability to make an immediate impact for the program, and we are excited to see her develop over her career."
Sanks is a 5-9 outside hitter from Alexandria, VA. She attended Thomas A. Edison High School where she helped lead her team to a 12-4 record as a senior. Sanks was named both first-team All-Conference and All-Region. Sanks has played her club volleyball for the Evolution Volleyball Club, NOVA Volleyball Club and the Arlington Elite Volleyball Club.
"Rachel is an explosive athlete that comes from our home area in Virginia," said Lipsitz. "She is quick at the net and will be a steady presence for us on the court. Rachel has the athletic ability and skill to help us compete at a high level."
These four join Taina Benitez, Scout McLerran, Kristina Curcin and Hannah Watson.
