BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team concluded their eight-match spring season on Wednesday night with a dominant 3-0 victory at Niagara. With the win over the Purple Eagles, the Bulls closed out their spring campaign with an unbeaten 5-0-3 overall record.
"We had a handful of girls who really took advantage of our spring season and have stepped up in big ways. Factor that with an undefeated record and not conceding any goals against all our DI opponents and it's a recipe for success next fall."
The momentum gained over the last two successful seasons continued this spring as the Bulls turned in some solid results including three straight wins to close out the spring. The Buffalo offense produced 14 goals through eight games while conceding just three goals to their opposition.
The Bulls opened up their schedule with a dominant 3-1 victory over Stony Creek before embarking on their historic Tour of Spain on Saturday, March 12. While in Spain, the Bulls picked up a 2-0 victory over U.E. Sant Andrea in Barcelona before earning a 1-1 draw in Valencia against Villarreal on March 17.
"Having the ability to travel to Europe this spring and experience the culture, style of play, and history of Spain was a once in a lifetime experience for our team. The girls really came together and embraced all Spain had to offer."
After arriving home from their seven-day trip to Spain, the Bulls collected a pair of draws against Unionville and St. Bonaventure at UB Stadium by the score of 1-1 and 0-0, respectively. The offense started to click down the stretch as the Bulls downed cross-town foe Canisius 2-0 on Wednesday, April 13.
Buffalo earned their best victory of the spring on Sunday, April 17 as they went to Syracuse and defeated the Orange 2-0 behind goals from Carissima Cutrona and Jessica Marlowe. The Bulls also defeated the Orange last season by the score of 1-0 in double overtime behind a Dana Lytle game-winner.
In their final game of the spring, the Bulls completely dominated the Niagara Purple Eagles en route to a 3-0 victory to keep UB unbeaten, 5-0-3, as they claimed their fifth cleansheet in eight matches. Cutrona and Celina Carrero were able to record the goals in the Big 4 win over Niagara.
