OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo softball team scored the final five runs on Saturday afternoon, but could not escape a seven-run hole, falling to the RedHawks, 7-5. Miami scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Bulls played well except for the bottom of the second when Miami recorded five of its seven hits on the afternoon. They sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning. UB was able to work itself out of the seven-run deficit starting with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.

Buffalo put the first two runners on base in the inning and scored their first run on a ground out to the pitcher from freshman Dani Cowan. The second run came in to score on a wild pitch.

The Bulls scored three more in the top of the fifth as Karly Nevez opened the inning with an infield single. She came in to score as junior Sammi Gallardo hit her ninth home run of the season, one off the school record for long balls in a season. Later in the inning, Buffalo loaded the bases with two outs when senior Jessica Griffin single through the right side, scoring junior Tori Pettine.

Buffalo got no closer despite a lead off double in the top of the seventh inning, which was erased on a game-ending double play.

Cowan picked up the loss as she went 1.1 innings and allowed three runs. Freshman Nicole Aviles pitched 0.1 innings and junior Tori Speckman pitched the final 4.1 innings. The Bulls had eight hits, including two-hit games from Gallardo, Griffin and Anissa Pinedo.

The Bulls wrap up the regular season tomorrow at Miami. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
