MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo softball teams dropped a pair of games at Ball State on Friday afternoon as the Cardinals took the first game, 3-2, and the second game, 5-3. The two wins for Ball State clinched the regular season MAC Championship for the Cardinals.

Ball State scored two runs in the bottom of the first in the opener before UB got on the board in the top of the second. Senior Jessica Griffin reached base on a two-out single and was driven home on a double to left center from freshman Dani Cowan. The Cardinals regained a two-run lead in the bottom of the second, but UB again pulled within one in the third inning.

Junior Sammi Gallardo reached base on a Ball State error and was eventually driven home by senior Alyssa Ward. That would be the final run of the game as neither team scored over the last four innings. Cowan picked up the loss, pitching a complete game and striking out four.

The Bulls got out to the early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Ward had a bunt single to drive in the first run, while the second came on a fielder's choice from junior Holly Luciano. Ball State scored one run in the bottom of the second and three in the third to take a 4-2 lead before UB pulled back within one in the fourth.

Sophomore Karly Nevez hit an infield single to lead off the inning and eventually advanced to third. She came in to score following a fielding error from the Ball State short stop. The Cardinals regained a two-run lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Junior Tori Pettine and sophomore Alexis Curtiss both had two hits in the game as UB recorded nine as a team.

The Bulls will head to Miami (OH) for a two-game series to end the regular season. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
