
Bulls Finish Opening Spring Weekend 2-2

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team hosted its first spring weekend tournament this past Saturday, going 2-2 in its four matches. The Bulls picked up victories against Niagara and Cornell, while dropping matches against Colgate and Syracuse. The Bulls were playing the weekend without numerous starters, who are rehabbing from off-season surgeries.
The Bulls beat Niagara, 25-18, 25-17 and defeated Cornell, 22-25, 25-17, 9-6. They fell to Syracuse, 25-12, 25-21 and Colgate, 25-22, 25-14.
Megan Lipski led the way offensively for Buffalo as she finished with 26 kills over the four matches and had four service aces. Dana Musil and Kaja Schirmer each finished with 15 kills, while Christine Fritsche and Dani Reinert each had two aces. Reinert fan the offense with 87 assists during the tournament.
Defensively, Kelly Svoboda finished with 28 digs, while Lipski finished second with 16. Amber Hatchett had seven blocks, while Fritsche and Akeila Lain both finished with four blocks.
"This weekend was a great opportunity for us to take a look at players in different positions," said head coach Todd Kress. "I like the way we completed and it gave us a good look at some things we need to improve upon for the remainder of the Spring."
