
Jones Wins MAC Field Athlete Honors for Second Time

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo shot putter Jonathan Jones has been selected as the Mid-American Conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The league announced from its Cleveland headquarters today.
At the SPIRE Division I meet on February 9, Jones scored a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put, placing behind Cornell All-American Stephen Mozia and a pair of unattached entrants. Jones had a top throw on Saturday of 60-5.25 (18.42m). He leads the MAC in the shot put at 61-5 (18.72m), which he posted on February 2 at Penn State's Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup to win the event.
This is the third consecutive week that a UB athlete has been honored by the MAC in track and field. Jones also earned league honors on January 30 after he finished second at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva, OH on January 26, He turned in a top throw of 60-8.50 (18.50m) in that meet. Women's hurdler Brooklynn Ventura earned the league's Track Athlete of the Week honor on February 6..
"He is one of the best throwers at the Division I level and next week he will have a chance to become MAC champion," said men's head coach Perry Jenkins. "When you have an athlete that is willing to be coached, the sky is the limit."
The Bulls close out the regular season at the Cornell Marc Denault Invitational on Saturday, February 16. The MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships are slated for February 22 and 23 in Ypsilanti, MI.
