2016: Played in 56 sets, playing mostly in the back row…had 72 digs, including nine at Western Michigan (10/15)…added eight digs against St. Francis (9/3) and Bucknell (9/17)…finished with 17 kills, including six kills and just one errors at Georgia Southern (9/9).
High School: Earned three letters and captained two seasons for head coach Casie Garland at Lakota East High School...went 22-4 during her senior year where she finished with 212 kills, 32 blocks, 13 aces and 66 digs...went undefeated in conference during her senior season, while winning a conference title in 2013-14 and district championships in 2013-14 and 2015-16...named an All-Star during her senior year and was named GMC All-Conference First Team in 2014 and second team in 2013 and 2015...was named Division I first-team All-District in 2014...played her club volleyball for the Dayton Juniors, Cincy Classics and Elevation Volleyball Club... played with classmate Maddie Torbeck at Elevation.
Personal: Born February 13, 1998...full name is Taina Maria Benitez...daughter of David and Wanda Benitez...has one sister (Jasmine)...hobbies include volleyball and drawing...favorite athletes are Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Gabby Douglas..favorite music is R&B...chose UB because of the volleyball program and the academic programs...has done charity work for the ASPCA Puerto Rican Cultural Society...person in history she would like to meet is Nelson Mandela...chose her number because it is the day she was born.
