2012: Came into the starting job at second base, making 53 starts and appearing in 54 games... batted .266 with 11 doubles, three triples and two home runs... drove in 22 runs... finished third on the team with 20 walks... enjoyed playing at Amherst Audubon Field, batting .330 in home games... settled into his role as the number nine hitter well, setting the table with a .284 batting average in Mid-American Conference games... made his first Division I start count, hitting a two-run home run against Kentucky (2/24)... went 4-5 with a double and an RBI against UMBC (3/14).... scored three runs and had two hits with a walk against Central Michigan (3/25)... had a pair of hits (a double and a triple) and a pair of walks to lead the team to a 7-6 win over Akron (4/14)... drove in two runs to help the team win a critical road game at Toledo (5/4).
Previous Schools: Mestas played his freshman season at Mesa State College where he played in 3 games for the RMAC Champion Mavs. He finished with 3 hits in 6 at bats and drove in 1 run... after transferring to Seward County Community College, he played in 56 games for the Saints... batted .321 with seven HR and 52 RBI... showed impressive plate discipline, with 26 walks to just 24 strikeouts... hit nine doubles and a triple among his 61 total hits for the season.
High School: Played for coach Don Lorett and Farmington High School where he was the District 1-AAAA Player of the Year and a 1st Team All-State selection. He helped Farmington to four straight state championships and hit .417 with 7 home runs during his senior campaign.
