2011: Stepped right into the team’s weekend rotation and made 12 starts for the season... threw 64 innings and struck out 43 while winning one game... made four quality starts (6+ IP with less than 3 ER)... was the hard-luck starter against Eastern Michigan, throwing seven innings of four-hit ball with only one earned run allowed in a 6-5 loss (3/27)... struck out a season-best six batters against Toledo (4/10)... pitched 7.2 innings and struck out five against Ohio (5/8)... this summer, while pitching for the North Adams Steeple Cats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, Copping won two games in six starts... posted an impressive 3.43 K/BB ratio for the Steeple Cats.
Previous School: Played for coach Evan O’Meara at Pasadena City College from 2009-2010.
High School: Was a four-year varsity starter and a three-time captain for Arroyo High School... was named the Pitcher of the Year in 2007... won the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award... also played basketball.
Personal: Born April 24, 1990... son of Curt and Marleine and has two brothers, Corey and Calvin... career goal is to pitch in the major leagues, or to pursue a career as a firefighter... chose UB to experience something new and different outside of California... has volunteered for the Los Angeles County Fire Department... credits his grandfather as his non-sports hero... if he could invite any three people to dinner he would invite Will Ferrell, Neil Armstrong and Albert Einstein... favorite musicians include Brad Paisley and Van Halen... majoring in sociology.
