
Track & Field Continues Outdoor Season This Week at Penn Relays & Fredonia

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program is continuing the outdoor season this week by competing in two meets. Members of the Bulls will participate at both the Penn Relays and the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational.
The Bulls enter the weekend following the annual UB Alumni Invitational, where the program won 18 events in front of the home crowd and added five all-time top 10 performances to the program's rankings.
PENN RELAYS
Luke Stoeffler will represent the Bulls at the 250th anniversary of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The senior is scheduled to compete in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at 7:20 p.m. The field for the event is expected to feature 44 runners.
Stoeffler's personal best time of 8:58.22 in the event ranks second in program history. The senior set his personal record time last year at the Penn Relays, surpassing his previous record of 9:10.40 by over ten seconds. Stoeffler rose from eighth to second in program history.

BLUE DEVIL INVITE
The Bulls continue the action at Fredonia on Saturday, scheduled to compete in 23 events. The meet will feature athletes from all four of the Bulls event groups, with jumps, throws, sprints and distance all slated to compete.
The program begins participation at 11 a.m. with the men's high jump, women's shot put and men's hammer throw. The women's high jump, men's shot put and women's hammer throw will follow for the Bulls. The Buffalo throwers end the day with the men's and women's discus scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Bryson Bodner had a strong performance for the Bulls at the program's home meet last weekend, posting a personal record performance of 16.46 meters in the shot put. Bodner will compete again at Fredonia. Maria Akalonu was another bright spot for throws, winning the women's discus with a distance of 40.53 meters. The sophomore is scheduled to compete again this weekend.
Track events are slated to begin at noon, with the Buffalo women set to compete in the 4x100-meter relay. Stephney Pryce, Shannon Schmieder, Jayne Williams and Alexia Jones are expected to participate for the Bulls.
Brianna Carter is scheduled to compete in the women's steeplechase to open the afternoon for the distance program. Carter won the event at the UB Alumni Invite with a time of 11:46.71.
Sam Mellinger is expected to participate in the men's 100-meter dash. The junior posted a personal best time of 10.55 seconds at the Raleigh Relays earlier this season to rank sixth in program history.
Jacquie Appenheimer, Megan Breslin and Reese Wilber are scheduled to compete in the women's 1,500-meter. Appenheimer's personal best performance in the event of 4:40.06 is less than eight seconds shy of the program's all-time top 10 (4:32.20).
