Bulls Stumble at Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team (18-24, 7-10 MAC) lost to the Akron Zips (22-19, 14-3 MAC) on the road in Saturday's doubleheader, 5-2 and 9-2.
GAME 1
Buffalo's offense got off to a quick start as Emily Gorman and Reagan Terwilliger started the game with back-to-back singles. The offense came to an abrupt stop as Akron stopped the threat.
The game was scoreless headed into the bottom of the fourth as a sac fly to left gave Akron a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Gorman led off with a walk as Terwilliger drilled her in on a double to left center. With Terwilliger advancing to third on the throw home, Nicole Allen singled to left to score Terwilliger to put the Bulls in front.
Unfortunately, the lead didn't last as a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth gave the Zips a 5-2 lead. The Bulls went down in order as Akron took game one.
Terwilliger went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Gorman, Allen and Bri Delaney also recorded hits.
GAME 2
Buffalo got on the board early as Bri Delaney drove in Nicole Allen to go up 1-0. In the top of the third, the Bulls added to their lead. With the bases loaded, Delaney delivered again with an RBI single to center to score Reagan Terwilliger to lead 2-0.
Akron answered in the bottom of the third with a three-run home run to take a 3-2 lead. The Zips added to their lead in the fourth on an RBI double to right center and a 2-RBI single up the middle to make it 6-2 heading into the fifth.
After a lead-off single by Nicole Allen, the Bulls went down in order. The Zips hit a solo homer to take a 7-2 lead in the fifth. They added insurance runs in the sixth with a 2-RBI single up the middle. Trailing 9-2, the Bulls loaded the bases with two outs, but didn't do any damage as Akron won, 9-2.
Bella Smithson and Delaney both went 2-for-3 with the latter driving in two runs.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow as they'll wrap up their series against Akron at noon.
