FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University at Buffalo softball team (4-11, 0-0 MAC) fell in their final game at the Gulf Coast Classic to the Louisville Cardinals, 4-1.
GAME 5 VS. LOUISVILLE
After the Cardinals took down the Bulls in order in the top of the first, they wasted no time to take the lead. A two out single sparked Louisville's offense. An ensuing single put runners on first and second, but in the next at bat, a single scored the runner from second base.
Louisville added to their lead in the bottom of the third as an RBI single made it a 2-0 game.
Buffalo struggled to get a hit until the fourth inning when Emily Gorman laid down a bunt down the third base line.
The Cardinals grabbed a 3-0 lead as the runner from third scored on a groundout to second. In the top of the sixth, the Bulls managed to string some hits together. Delaney Ellis singled to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tabitha von Kolen singled down the eft field line as Ellis moved to third. Reagan Terwilliger's bat stayed hot as an infield single was enough to score Ellis.
Louisville got the run bad in the bottom of the sixth as a pickle play at second base score the runner on third. Trailing 4-1, the Bulls ran out of gas for a comeback.
Ellis, Terwilliger, Gorman and von Kolen recorded hits for the blue and white.
Genevieve Longsdorf tossed her first complete game of the season. She allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks.
Buffalo returns to the field on Friday as they'll face James Madison and Hofstra.
