BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field program is competing at Cornell University's Marc Deneault Invitational on Saturday. The meet marks the end of the Bulls' indoor regular season, with Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships scheduled for Friday, February 27th, and Saturday, February 28th.
The program aims to extend its historic indoor season with one more meet at Cornell. The Bulls have entered 37 new performances into the UB indoor record book, including two school records set last weekend by Noah Brightman and Vassi Klock in the mile at Boston University. The program also added eight more performances to the all-time ranks. The Bulls have another opportunity to rise the program and conference ranks on Saturday.
Michael Parks is expected to compete in the men's 60-meter hurdles. The senior has set two new personal records in the event this season, rising to third in program history with a time of 7.93 seconds. Parks' time also ranks third in the conference.
Allison Newton is scheduled to compete in the women's 500-meter. Newton most recently joined the program ranks in the 800-meter, posting a time of 2:12.09 at Boston University to earn the eighth spot in UB indoor history. Newton aims to join the 500-meter ranks at Cornell, an event that the Bulls haven't had a top 10 performance in since 2018 (Sydney March, 1:17.31).
Sam Mellinger, Braden Dunn and Matthew Schaffert are scheduled to compete in the men's 60-meter dash. Mellinger set two personal best times in the event this season, earning the ninth spot in UB indoor history with a time of 6.88 seconds at Penn State. Dunn's season-best time of 6.91 seconds nearly joined the program ranks, with Schaffert close too (6.94). The trio all rank inside the top 20 in the conference.
Uma Bhattacharjee, Shannon Schmieder and Amber McDonald are expected to compete in the women's long jump. Bhattacharjee posted a mark of 5.63 meters in the event at Penn State, nearly joining the program's ranks. Schmieder (5.47m) and McDonald (5.43m) also posted indoor personal records this season.
The action at Cornell University begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Live results are accessible here. A complete schedule for UB Track & Field can be found here.
