Bulls put Up Fight Against Notre Dame on Sunday

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University at Buffalo softball team (2-8, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Notre Dame Fight Irish in their final game at East Carolina, 4-1.
GAME 5 VS. NOTRE DAME
It was a scoreless first two innings, but the Bulls threatened in the second inning as Bella Smithson doubled to center and advanced to third following a ground out. The Fighting Irish managed to get out of the situation unscathed.
Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. A lead off single got the inning going as the runner then stole second base. A groundout moved her over to third to which she scored in the next at bat on a groundout to shortstop.
The Bulls tied the game in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Reagan Terwilliger forced an error by the shortstop. She then stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Nicole Allen to tie the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Notre Dame regained the lead with a 2-RBI double to left. They added an insurance run on a double steal as the Bulls managed to get the runner out at second but the runner from third scored.
Buffalo struggled to get a hit the rest of the day as their next six batters were retired.
Abbey Nagel, Nicole Allen and Bella Smithson recorded hits for the Bulls.
The Bulls are back in action next weekend at the Gulf Coast Classic hosted by FGCU.
