Bulls Fall in Overtime Thriller at Miami, 105-102

OXFORD, Ohio – It what was a high scoring affair at Millet Hall on Saturday afternoon as it came down to the final shot. The Miami (OH) RedHawks (19-0, 7-0 MAC) fought off the Buffalo Bulls (13-5, 3-3 MAC) on a last second three-pointer in overtime to remain unbeaten on the year.
The Bulls finished with five players in double figures scoring with Angelo Brizzi leading the way with 24 points. Daniel Freitag (22), Ryan Sabol (20), Derrick Talton Jr. (11) and Tim Oboh (11) rounded out the top scorers. Noah Batchelor had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Sabol surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career at Buffalo as he entered the contest with 985 points. He's just the 27th Bull in program history to reach this milestone.
In total, there were 27 lead changes in the game, the most all season for the Bulls.
It was a fast paced first half right off the tip. Brizzi drilled a three to give the Bulls an early 3-0 lead. At the under-16 media timeout with 14:12 to go, the Bulls and RedHawks were tied at 14. The momentum started to favor Miami as a three-pointer with nine minutes remaining put them in front, 31-26. The Bulls did not back down as a 13-3 run gave them a 39-33 lead with five minutes left. The RedHawks tied the game at 46 off a 6-0 run courtesy of a pair of three-pointers. With half a minute left, Brizzi made a contested layup to give the Bulls a 48-46 lead at the half. Defense was hard to come by in the first half as both teams combined to go 37-for-59 from the field, good for a .627 field goal percentage. Buffalo was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe to Miami's 1-for-3.
Just like the first half, Brizzi started the second half with another three-pointer to push Buffalo's lead to five. Brizzi stayed hot following the RedHawks taking a 52-51 lead, he drilled yet another three-pointer. Over the course of 90 seconds, the score shifted in favor of Miami. With 9:03 remaining in regulation, they took a 75-68 lead. However, the Bulls quickly responded with a 10-2 run to take a 78-77 lead. With 4:14 left, Buffalo led, 84-79. In the following four minutes, they would only lead 86-83. Following a pair of made free throws by Miami, the Bulls pushed their lead to 88-85 after Freitag made one of two free throws. In the final possession, Miami's Eian Elmer drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
It was a slugfest in overtime as both squads combined to go 10-for-15 from the field, but Miami was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. The RedHawks looked as though they would run away with it up 98-92 with 1:42 remaining. With under a minute to go, Sabol hit a three, but the RedHawks responded with a layup to put the lead back to three. The ball stayed in Sabol's hands and he made a contested jumper to cut Miami's lead to 100-99. The RedHawks knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 102-99. Ezra McKenna banged in the game-tying three-pointer with 19 seconds to go, but it was too much time. Miami's Peter Suder made the game-winning three with 1.4 seconds left.
