Women’s Basketball Hosts Massachusetts on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball welcomes conference newcomer Massachusetts to Alumni Arena on Saturday at 1pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Jared Zeidman (color) announcing and can be heard on the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is just the seventh overall meeting between Buffalo and UMass, and the first as MAC opponents, with the Bulls owning a 4-2 series advantage. The Bulls defeated the Minutewomen in overtime in the first round of the WNIT last season.
Buffalo fell at Ball State on Wednesday. Redshirt freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls in scoring for the seventh time this season, setting a new career-high with 24 points on a career-best nine made field goals. Sophomore Amber Howard, junior Janyah Bohanon and freshman Ella Corry added nine points each.
Rowe leads the Bulls in scoring at 10.6 points per game. She has scored in double figures seven times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.367) while also ranking eighth in the league in steals per contest (2.0). Freshman Meg Lucas leads the league and ranks 18th nationally in rebounding (10.4 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 30 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (15.3). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 25+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Massachusetts is 12-3 overall and 4-1 in league play after defeating Akron 82-68 on Wednesday. The Minutewomen are balanced offensively with three players averaging in double figures, led by 2025 Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year and preseason All-MAC selection Yahmani McKayle who is averaging 16.0 points and 5.2 assists per game. Fellow preseason All-MAC pick Megan Olbrys is averaging 14.3 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (7.3) and Allie Palmieri is also averaging in double figures (11.9 ppg).
As a team, UMass leads the MAC and ranks in the top 60 nationally in scoring defense (58.5) while also leading the league in field goal defense (.363), three-point field goal defense (.270) and assist/turnover ratio (+1.12). Additionally, they rank second in the MAC in blocked shots per game (3.7), third in assists per game (17.0), offensive rebounding (14.5) and scoring margin (+11.5) and fourth in steals (10.1) and turnovers forced (18.9) per game.
