BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Cross Country and Track & Field program has announced the hiring of Tyler Scheving to join the team's staff as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.
For the past three years, Scheving served as the Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field at Canisius University. Under his guidance, the Golden Griffins were a mainstay in the top five at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. Canisius also set 20 new track and field school records across the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Scheving returns to UB for a third time, following stints as both a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulls and a student-athlete. The Western New York native competed in both cross country and track for five years. During his career, Scheving was a three-time MAC champion, with two distance medley relay MAC titles in 2014 and 2015, culminating with an individual MAC title in the 800-meter in 2017.
Scheving still holds UB's school records in the indoor 800-meter (1:48.92) and outdoor 800-meter (1:48.37). He was also a member of the Bulls' relay school records in the indoor distance medley relay (9:47.77), outdoor distance medley relay (7:23.00), and the outdoor 3,200-meter relay (7:23.00).
"I am thrilled to have Coach Scheving come back to the University at Buffalo," said Program Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "His history with our program as a former record-setting standout student-athlete and volunteer coach will make his transition back to the Bulls easy. He has shown success in building a program at Canisius University, recruiting top-level student-athletes who have continued to develop under his guidance. We are excited to add his strong skill set to our coaching staff."
