BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo head swimming and diving coach Andy Bashor has announced the addition of assistant coach Sydney Thomas, who joins the staff for the 2025-26 season.
"I am really excited to have Sydney join our coaching staff and team," said Bashor. "She is a bright young coach with a lot of energy that will help our team get better."
Thomas comes to Buffalo after spending two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Centre College. The Colonels succeeded under Thomas' guidance, winning the 2025 Southern Athletic Association Women's Swimming and Diving Championship for the first time since 2013. The women's program also finished second at conference championships in 2024, with the men's program earning second place in both seasons.
Thomas has ties to the Mid-American Conference, competing as a member of the Eastern Michigan University swimming program from 2016 to 2020. As a student-athlete, Thomas was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection, majoring in Exercise Science. Thomas' name still sits inside the program record books for the 400-yard individual medley, having the program's 10th-ranked time (4:25.39).
Thomas is also a native of Jamestown, New York, familiar with the City of Buffalo and the University. A six-time letterwinner at Southwestern Senior High School, Thomas had great success as a high school athlete. By the time she graduated, Thomas held the school record in five events, also being named to the NYSPHSSA State Team from 2013-15 and earning Scholastic All-American honors.
