Softball Falls in Series Finale to Western Michigan

The Broncos got out to a hot start as they had a 2-RBI triple and a 2-run home run in back-to-back at bats to take a 4-0 lead in the first. They added to their lead in the second with a sacrifice fly to me it 5-0.
Buffalo got on the board in the third inning as Mia Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Reagan Terwilliger. Emily Gorman scored on the play on an error by the third baseman. After the top of the third, the Broncos led, 5-2. The Broncos got those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back RBI singles to extend their lead to 7-2.
The Bulls offense put up 4 runs in the fifth inning. Mitchell's bat stayed hot as she ripped an RBI single that scored Terwilliger. Abbey Nagel got in on the action with an RBI single of her own to make it a 7-4 Broncos lead. Freshman Isabella Smithson hit a sacrifice fly to right field with the bases loaded to score Mitchell. Talynn Williams hit into a fielder's choice, but Nagel came around to score. Buffalo cut Western Michigan's lead to 7-6 after the top of the fifth.
The Broncos got a run back in the bottom of the fifth as an RBI single to push their lead to 8-6. They then added an insurance run in the sixth on a home run to right field. Headed into the last inning, the Broncos led, 9-6.
Smithson continued to hit runners in as a sacrifice fly to center scored Nagel to cut the lead to 9-7. That was all the Bulls managed in the seventh inning as the Broncos took the final game of the series.
Smithson and Mitchell each finished the day with 2 RBIs. Nagel led the Bulls with 3 hits on the afternoon.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday as they host the Northern Illinois Huskies at 3 p.m.
