Bulls Welcome the Huskies for a Three-Game Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (8-24, 3-8 MAC) will host the Northern Illinois Huskies (12-21, 7-7 MAC) for a three-game series at Nan Harvey Field. The series will open on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
On the season, freshman Emily Gorman leads the Bulls with a .424 batting average with a team-high 39 hits and 22 runs scored. Gorman also leads the team with a .518 on base percentage, but Lily Lauck is just behind with a .461 percentage. Lauck has a team-high 24 walks. Isabella Smithson leads the team with 24 RBIs. Mia Mitchell leads the team with 11 extra base hits as Abbey Nagel has a team-high 8 doubles thus far.
The Bulls are coming off a series loss to the Western Michigan Broncos last weekend. The Bulls came out to take the first game, 6-3, but then fell in the final two games, 5-2 and 9-7. In the win, Mia Mitchell led the offense as she went 3-for-4 with a double, 3 runs scored and an RBI. Abbey Nagel went 2-for-4 from the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs. Ava Thelen finished the game with 2 hits in 3 at bats.
Abbey Nagel took home her first MAC Player of the Week honor after last week's performance. She hit .588 on the week as she was 10-for-17. She finished with 6 singles, 2 doubles and a pair of home runs for a 1.059 slugging percentage. She crossed the plate nine times as she ripped in 7 RBIs. She helped the Bulls sweep their Big 4 rival St. Bonaventure on Tuesday as well as secure a win at Western Michigan as the Bulls went 3-2 on the week.

NOTES: Buffalo has won the last two meetings against the Huskies. The Bulls and Huskies met last April 20-21 in DeKalb, Ill. After losing in six innings, 11-3, in game one, the Bulls came back to take games two and three, 4-1 and 9-3.
