Bulls Fall Late to Ball State, 3-2

MUNCIE, Ind. – The University at Buffalo softball team (16-29, 9-13 MAC) nearly swept the weekend series away from the home Ball State Cardinals (29-14, 14-7 MAC) on Sunday afternoon, but fell late to the Cardinals, 3-2.
The final game of the weekend was scoreless after two innings of MACtion before the Cardinals scored on a throwing error in the third inning.
Ball State led 1-0 into the top of the fifth before Isabella Smithson ripped a 2-RBI double to left to score Reagan Terwilliger and Emily Gorman. Buffalo's 2-1 lead didn't last long as Ball State answered in the bottom of the inning. The Cardinals led the inning off with a bunt single followed by a 2-run home run to left to put them in front, 3-2.
The Bulls didn't find any offense the rest of the day.
Gorman led the Bulls with 3 hits including a double and a run scored. Terwilliger, Abbey Nagel and Smithson each added a hit for the Bulls. Genevieve Longsdorf threw 4.2 innings for the Bulls as she allowed 3 runs, 2 earned runs on 7 hits, a walk and an error. Olivia Russ threw 1.1 innings as she struck out 3 batters.
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday as they host the Akron Zips for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
