Bulls Sweep Crosstown Rival Canisius on Wednesday Afternoon

BUFFALO, N.Y. β The University at Buffalo softball team (14-28, 7-12 MAC) swept the visiting Canisius Golden Griffins (21-0, 11-6 MAAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field, 4-3 and 4-0.

On the day, Olivia Russ threw 7 innings while allowing just 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4 Golden Griffins. Russ earned the save in game one and the win in game two. She didn't allow a single run on the afternoon.

At the plate, Abbey Nagel hit 2 home runs, good for 4 RBIs.

GAME 1
The Bulls won the first game of the day, 4-3, as they scored 4 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks.

Canisius didn't waste any time getting on the board as they scored on an RBI triple in the first. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third when Abbey Nagel hit a 3-run home run to right field that scored Ava Thelen and Ardyn Hopf.

The Golden Griffins tied the game at 3 in the fifth inning courtesy of a 2-run home run to right. Buffalo recaptured the lead in the bottom of the inning as Reagan Terwilliger singled to left that scored Hopf.

The Bulls kept the Golden Griffins off the board for the 4-3 win.

GAME 2
It was all Buffalo in the second game of the day. They scored 4 runs on 6 hits, 6 walks and 2 errors. The Bulls scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a Lily Lauck RBI double to center and an infield error. Up 2-0, they added to their lead in the third as Ava Thelen hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Alyssa Wasielewski.

Abbey Nagel's bat stayed hot as she ripped a solo blast to center to make it a 4-0 ballgame.

Marissa Calloway came in relief for the final 2 innings where she struck out 4 batters.

The Bulls are back in action this weekend when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to play the Ball State Cardinals.
