BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (16-5, 9-1 MAC) defeated Toledo 6-1 in the regular season finale on Senior Day at Miller Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls, who clinched the regular season title last weekend, will be the #1 seed in the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament and will face #4 Ball State on Saturday, April 19 at 10am at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Bulls got off to a good start by taking the doubles point as Emiliano Jorquera and Faiz Nasyam cruised to a 6-0 win at third doubles and Yu-Shiang Huang and Michael Malkin followed with a 6-4 win at the second position to give UB a 1-0 lead in the match.
Buffalo continued their momentum in singles action as Clement Mainguy cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles, Malkin won 6-2, 6-2 at the fifth position and Theodoros Mitsakos clinched the match for UB with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at first singles. Nasyam added to the Bulls' lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at six singles and Cheng Tang capped off the day with a 7-6, 6-1 win at second singles.
"This team has accomplished something truly extraordinary," said head coach Lee Nickell. "To win the MAC regular season after having the year we had last year is unheard of. We are so proud of how this team has handled every obstacle we have faced. We now shift our focus to the tournament which is our ultimate goal. We know it's a new season and Ball State will be fighting with all they have tor their legendary coach who is retiring this year. It will be a totally different match than the previous and we will have to play our best to get through. We will spend this week preparing and will be ready for a great match."
