Bulls Travel to Athens for Series Against the Ohio Bobcats

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (5-17, 0-0 MAC) will look to keep their Mid-American Conference win streak alive this weekend when they play the Ohio Bobcats (17-7, 0-0 MAC). The series will begin on Friday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader followed by a game on Saturday at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Last weekend the Bulls went 2-1 against the Bowling Green Falcons. After dropping game one, 11-3, the Bulls swept the Falcons on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 and 10-6. In the second game of the series, Talynn Williams hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Miranda Zipp. Olivia Russ went the distance as she struck out 9 Falcons. In the final game of the series, Buffalo had a collective 11 hits to go with their 10 runs.
On the season, freshman Emily Gorman leads the Bulls with a .406 batting average with a team-high 26 hits and 14 runs scored. Gorman also leads the team in on base percentage, but Lily Lauck is just behind with a .486 percentage. Lauck has a team-high 18 walks. Isabella Smithson leads the team with 16 RBIs. Mia Mitchell leads the team with 6 doubles and 3 home runs as Abbey Nagel has 5 doubles thus far.
After the opening weekend of conference play, Avelyn Van Heyst is batting .714 with 5 hits in 7 at bats with 5 runs scored. Olivia Russ has an ERA of 1.97 with 12 strikeouts in three appearances.

NOTES: The Bulls and Bobcats met last season for a three-game series at Nan Harvey Field. The Bobcats swept the Bulls, 3-1, 4-1 and 8-3. The Bobcats have won four of the last six meetings against the Bulls. In 2023, the Bulls spoiled the Bobcats' senior weekend as they took two games in the series to eliminate Ohio from the MAC Tournament field.
