Bulls Welcome Toledo to Alumni Arena for Education Day Game on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (19-2, 8-2 MAC) closes the homestand on Wednesday as they host Toledo on Education Day, sponsored by Upstate Farms and Best Self Behavioral Health, at Alumni Arena at 11am.
The Bulls are 19-2 overall, their best start through 21 games in program history, and are 11-1 at home this season, including 4-1 in league play.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Jared Zeidman (color) announcing and can be heard on ESPN 1520 and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 39th overall meeting between Buffalo and Toledo with the Rockets owning a 28-10 series advantage. The Bulls defeated Toledo in the MAC Tournament semifinals a year ago.
Buffalo celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day with an 84-58 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon. It was a balanced offensive attack with four Bulls in double figures, led by Chellia Watson who scored a game-high 24 points. Fifth year guard Noelani Cornfield stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds eight assists and five steals and Kirsten Lewis-Williams added 19 points on an efficient 9-of-10 from the floor. Senior forward Jordyn Beaty was also in double figures with a breakthrough performance, scoring a career-high 15 points to go with 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
The Bulls, one of two MAC teams ranked in the top 15 of the Mid-Major Top 25, are led offensively by Watson who is averaging 19.7 points per game. Lewis-Williams is averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and Cornfield is also averaging in double figures at 10.6 ppg, while leading the team and ranking 22nd nationally in assists per game (5.5).
As a team, the Bulls lead the league in scoring offense (76.5), scoring margin (+18.8), field goal percentage (.455), field goal defense (.362), 3FG defense (.258) and turnover margin (+7.9) while also ranking in the top three in scoring defense (57.7), assists (16.5), steals per game (10.6) and free throw percentage (.774).
The Toledo Rockets are 15-5 overall, and 8-2 in league play, after defeating Eastern Michigan 77-49 on Saturday. Toledo returns eight players from last season's MAC regular season championship team while adding seven new faces. The Rockets are balanced offensively with three players averaging in double figures, led by Sammi Mikonowicz who is averaging 13.0 points and a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game. Khera Goss (11.9 ppg) and Kendall Caruthers (11.4 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
The Rockets have locked down their opponents as they have held six of their 10 conference opponents below 60 points. Toledo is 32nd in the country in rebounding margin (+7.2). Their +6.4-rebound margin in conference games is second-best in the league.
Up next, Buffalo will take a break from league action as they travel to Myrtle Beach for the second game of the MAC-SBC Challenge at Coastal Carolina on Saturday, February 8. Tipoff from the HTC Center is set for 4pm.
