Bulls Close Out Indoor Regular Season at Cornell’s Marc Deneault Invitational

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at Cornell University on Saturday in the Marc Deneault Invitational. The meet marked the end of the indoor regular season for the Bulls, with the team headed to Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships next week.
WOMEN
Juliette Salazar won the women's 800-meter with a time of 2:18.92. Salazar posted a season-best time of 2:15.92 last week at the SPIRE Indoor Games. The sophomore continues to chase her personal record performance of 2:15.03 in the event.
Sophia Sampson earned a new personal record time of 7.87 in the 60-meter dash finals to place fourth. Hailey Martinez finished fifth with a time of 7.88, just one-hundredth of a second shy of her record in the event (7.87). The two freshmen qualified for the finals by taking two of the top eight spots in the preliminary round field of 25 athletes.
Sampson doubled back to finish third of 37 athletes in the women's 200-meter with a time of 25.56. Martinez (6th, 25.88) and Stephney Pryce (9th, 26.25) also posted top-ten finishes in the event.
Pryce, Martinez, Shannon Schmieder and Sampson won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:59.96. The Bulls' time was just over four seconds shy of their season-best time of 3:55.43.
Schmieder debuted in the long jump, taking fourth in the field of 19 with a mark of 5.31 meters.
Amari Hall posted a new personal record of 11.66 meters in the women's triple jump to finish second in the event. Hall's mark was two-hundredths of a meter shy of reaching the all-time UB indoor record book, falling short of Alison Wojciechoski's mark of 11.68 metes in 2022. Melissa Carden secured third place for the Bulls with her mark of 10.76 meters.
Eliza Medearis ran a new personal record of 10:26.26 in the women's 3,000-meter to earn a top-ten finish. Brianna Urban also competed for the Bulls, taking 12th with a time of 10:58.01 and falling just shy of her own personal best of 10:57.03.
Loretta White took second place in the women's weight throw with a new personal record mark of 16.70 meters. In the shot put, Bernice Balk (7th, 12.26m) and Maria Akalonu (8th, 12.16m) earned top-ten finishes. Akalonu's mark was a new personal record.
MEN
Michael Parks finished second in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.28 seconds. The junior qualified for the finals with a third-place finish and a time of 8.23 seconds.
Brian Murphy took second in the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.75 meters. Murphy's personal record mark of 4.90 meters ranks fifth in the conference this season.
Kenneth Gulloso finished second of 19 athletes in the men's weight throw with a mark of 15.81 meters. The junior's season-best mark in the event came at the Akron Invite (16.65m).
Aiden Walker (4th, 15.30) and Quintus Simmons (6th, 14.35) took two of the top six spots in the men's shot put field of 20 athletes. Simmons' mark in the event was a new personal record.
Kevin Sherry (7th, 4:23.15) and Connor Domoy (9th, 4:28.79) earned top-ten finishes in the men's mile. Sherry was just shy of his personal record of 4:21.14. Hayden Parks also competed for the Bulls, taking 11th with a time of 4:32.09.
Gabriel Cornfield finished eighth of 21 athletes in the men's 800-meter with a time of 2:01.20.
Daniel Richardson posted a mark of 1.80 meters in the men's high jump to finish eighth. Richardson's season-best mark in the event is 1.85 meters.
