Women’s Basketball Hosts Niagara on Wednesday

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Alumni Arena as they host Big 4 Rival Niagara on Wednesday at 6pm. It is Native American Heritage Night, presented by Seneca Resorts and Casinos.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Jared Zeidman (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 48th overall meeting between Buffalo and Niagara with the Bulls owning a 28-19 series advantage. UB has won six straight meetings, most recently a 33-point victory at the Gallagher Center last season.
A last second shot fell short as the University at Buffalo women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Hampton, 58-56, to close out play at the Puerto Rico Clasico on Saturday. Freshman forward Meg Lucas shined, recording a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Junior guard Paula Lopez also scored 12 points, including 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and fellow junior Janyah Bohanon added eight points.
As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 30 in offensive rebounds per game (16.1) while ranking third in three-point field goal defense (.241), fourth in steals per game (9.4) and fifth in rebounds per game (39.1) and blocks per game (2.9). UB also leads the league in bench points per game (23.1) and have gotten 25+ points from their reserves four times.
Niagara is 0-7 overall after falling at Ohio State on Sunday. The Purple Eagles were picked to finish 11th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll. They added three freshmen and four transfers to the roster. Junior Talia Dial leads Niagara in scoring at 9.4 points per game. Chasity Wilson (8.7 ppg) is also a main contributor while Tyaisha Freeman leads the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg). The Purple Eagles lead the MAAC in blocks per game (3.6) and is second in steals per contest (9.1). They also lead the league in turnovers forced (19.7) and average 23 points per game off opponent's miscues, which accounts for 46% of their offense.
Up next, Buffalo will travel to the Southern Tier for a clash with the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday, December 6 at 2pm.
