Bulls Welcome #24 Kentucky to Alumni Arena on Sunday
11/8/2025 11:10:00 AM | Women's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team welcomes nationally-ranked Kentucky to Alumni Arena for "716 Day" on Sunday at 2pm.
There will be a special pregame ceremony to unveil the 2025 WNIT championship banner and the first 500 fans will receive a commemorative WNIT banner replica. Additionally, there will be a special 716 postcard autograph session after the game.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the first overall meeting between the two programs. It is just the fifth time UB has hosted an opponent ranked in the top 25. The Bulls upset #22 North Carolina in 2000 and dropped a close contest to #8 Stanford in 2018. UB also hosted a ranked Bowling Green squad in MAC play in 2007 and 2009.
Buffalo fell at Marshall in the regular season opener on Monday. Senior guard Anaya Coleman led the Bulls with 10 points, junior Paula Lopez scored seven and senior Ally Carman added six points. The Bulls returned just two players from last year's squad that won the WNIT Championship for the first time in program history. UB added seven transfers and five true freshmen to the roster.
Kentucky is 2-0, with wins over Morehead State and Monmouth, and entered the season ranked #24 in the AP Poll after finishing the 2024-25 season with a 23-8 overall record and 11-5 league mark in the first season under head coach Kenny Brooks. The Wildcats broke 12 school records last season including five team single-season and single-game marks and several individual records. Kentucky returns 46.7 percent of its scoring and 70.9 percent of its rebounding in just the frontcourt alone from last season to this season. Clara Strack, a Hamburg, NY native and the 2025 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year and Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Watch Lists. The Wildcats added four All-Conference, upperclassmen guards to the roster, including three from the transfer portal and one coming off injury, to go with the veteran frontcourt.
Up next, Buffalo will head back on the road as they travel to Burlington for a matchup with the defending America East champion Vermont Catamounts on Wednesday, November 12 at 5pm.
