11/2/2025 9:47:00β―AM | Women's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY β The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will open the 2025-26 season, the first in the Kristen Sharkey era, on Monday night as they travel to West Virginia to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd at 6pm in the first game of the MAC-SBC Challenge.
Β
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Mark Martin (play-by-play) and Bobby Iddings (color) announcing and can be heard online through the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 14th overall meeting between the two programs, with Marshall owning a slim 8-5 series advantage. Buffalo and Marshall last played in 2004 when the Thundering Herd were members of the Mid-American Conference.
The Bulls have had success in their regular season openers since joining Division I in 1991-92 as they own a 24-10 record in the first game of the season. Buffalo is 9-1 in their last 10 season openers.
Buffalo defeated Canisius 69-63 in an exhibition contest at Alumni Arena on October 26. Four players scored in double figures, led by junior guard Paula Lopez who scored a game-high 26 points. The Bulls returned just two players from last year's squad that won the WNIT Championship for the first time in program history. UB added seven transfers and five true freshmen to the roster.
Marshall finished the 2024-25 season with a 15-20 overall record and 6-12 league mark in the first season under head coach Juli Fulks. They capped the season by winning a record four games in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Tournament before falling to Troy in the quarterfinals. The Thundering Herd, who were picked to finish eighth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll, return eight players from a year ago, including Meredith Maier who was named Preseason All-SBC Third Team after setting new single-season career-highs in points (330), rebounds (158), steals (48) and assists (47) as a junior. Marshall also added two freshmen and four transfers to the roster, including VCU transfer Timaya Lewis-Eutsey who was an All-Atlantic 10 Third Team selection.
Up next, Buffalo will return home to welcome SEC powerhouse Kentucky to Alumni Arena on Sunday, November 9 at 2pm.
