
Trio of Bulls Crowned Champions at MAC Indoor Tournament

KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season in style this weekend as the Bulls took part in the MAC Indoor Tournament, hosted by Western Michigan.
The weekend was highlighted by Minjae Kim, Faiz Nasyam and Michael Malkin who all won their respective singles draws.
In Flight B, Kim defeated Ball State's Andrew Hayward 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and then took down Toledo's Lucas Britez 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the finals where he defeated Western Michigan's Alexander Antonopoulos 6-2, 6-1.
In Flight C, Nasyam defeated Western Michigan's Matej Kajzer in a three-set thriller in his opening match before capturing some more three-set magic with a 7-6, 5-7, 12-10 win over NIU's Iker Dellien to advance to the finals where defeated Western Michigan's Oscar Corwin 6-3, 6-3 in the championship match.
In Flight D, Malkin defeated Toledo's Charlie Snow 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in the quarterfinals before taking down Western Michigan's Jack Davidson 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the championship match where he defeated Toledo's Cole Cozens 6-3, 7-6.
Nasyam also had a successful doubles campaign as he partnered with Emiliano Jorquera to defeat Toledo's Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez and Lucas Britez 8-4 before falling to Western Michigan's Tim Riedel and Drew Evans 8-5 in the semifinals.
"This has been an exceptional fall for our team," said head coach Lee Nickell. "I am proud of the way we have competed, and we should have good confidence going into the spring. Minjae, Michael and Faiz should be very proud of their weekend. They did a great job of staying consistent and mentally tough."
