Bulls Fall to the Buckeyes in Five Set Thriller

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-6, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday evening, 3-2 (25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 11-15).
The last time the Bulls played in a five-set match was on Oct. 21 against Ball State, 19 matches ago.
The Bulls tallied one more point than the Buckeyes, outscoring them 79-78.
Manoela Forlin finished with a career-high marks with 23 kills, 51 attacks and 28.5 points. Freshman Luli Arcucci didn't look like a freshman on the court as she had the third-most kills in the match with 17 and a hitting percentage of .314.
Ava Kanj and Arcucci were monsters at the net as they had career-high blocks with five and four, respectively.
The Bulls won the first set against the Buckeyes, 25-16. Buffalo hadn't won the first set in since Army West Point six matches ago. The offense clicked for the Bulls as they outhit the Buckeyes, .360 to .094. The Bulls led 20-12 after a 5-1 run and closed the set out before Ohio State could get their offense to click.
In the second set, each team tallied three total blocks, but Ohio State outhit the Bulls, .333 to .133. The Bulls led early in the set until the Buckeyes rattled off an 11-2 run to take a 16-9 lead. A late charge by Buffalo tightened the set, but it was too late as Ohio State won, 25-19.
The Buckeyes led 6-1 in the third set, but the Bulls stampeded back. The Bulls came back to win the third set, 25-21. They had three aces in the set to Ohio State's zero. Forlin had a set-high seven kills as Lauren Otten added five of her own.
The Buckeyes denied the Bulls the opportunity to take the match in the fourth set. Ohio State had six total blocks in the set as they held the Buffalo offense to hit .057. The Bulls saw themselves in another 6-1 deficit, but managed to make it 19-18. Ohio State pulled away to force the decisive fifth set.
After taking a 5-2 lead in the final set, the Bulls couldn't hang on for the win. Ohio State's offense hit .348 in the set to Buffalo's .115. The Buckeyes won the set, 15-11.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against No. 20 Miami Hurricanes (5-2, 0-0 ACC).
