Bulls Fall to Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team (16-31, 7-17 MAC) fell to the Toledo Rockets (24-21, 14-10 MAC) in Saturday's doubleheader.
The Bulls fell to the Rockets by a score of 3-1 in game one of the series. Toledo struck first with an RBI single down the right field line to go up 1-0.
The score remains 1-0 until the Bulls tied the game in the fourth inning. Mia Mitchell led the inning off with a solo shot to left field.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Rockets were aggressive on the base paths. After a leadoff single, they utilized a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to second. An infield single put runners on the corners. They then did a double steal and stole a run to go up 2-1. The runner on second then stole third which was followed by a walk. Toledo added a run after a fielder's choice to push their lead to 3-1.
In the top of the seventh, Regan Terwilliger struck out but reached on the passed ball. With one out, Madison Fernimen reached base on a fielder's choice. She advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alexis Lucyshyn singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, but the inning and game ended on a fly out to left.
Game two was another low scoring affair between the Bulls and Rockets. Toledo defended their home field as they won, 2-1.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Abbey Nagel ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Lucyshyn. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't muster another run.
In the third inning, Toledo tied the game with a sacrifice fly caught in foul territory. The Rockets took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after a wild pitch.
Buffalo threatened in the seventh inning after Sara Kelly singled to shortstop. She then stole second to get in scoring position. Avelyn Van Heyst reached on a fielding error as Kelly got to third base. Van Heyst stole second to put two runners in scoring position. The rally stalled as the last two batter couldn't bring in a run.
The Bulls will finish their season tomorrow with first pitch at noon.
