BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (11-18, 3-5 MAC) will host the Ball State Cardinals (15-20, 2-7 MAC) for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday at Nan Harvey Field.
Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. Prior to the game at noon, the team will host a "Bark in the Park" event with the SPCA Serving Erie County. There will be adoptable dogs and a donation drive. Bring your own dog out to the ballpark on Saturday! The series will wrap up on Sunday at noon.
The Bulls are 8-29 (.216) all-time against the Cardinals. Ball State has won the last four games against the Bulls.
Buffalo enters the weekend with an 11-18 record and are 3-5 in MAC play. UB will look to break their six-game losing streak as they were swept by the top-seeded Miami (OH) RedHawks last weekend. The Bulls are being led offensively by fifth year Alexis Lucyshyn, who is batting .310 with 27 hits. She's also added a team-high 19 RBIs. Abbey Nagel and Madison Fernimen also have 26 hits each. Fernimen has 14 RBIs for the Bulls. On the basepaths, Mia Mitchell is 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts this season. As a team, UB is 24-25 on stolen base attempts.
In the circle, Lucyshyn is 7-7 with a 2.21 ERA as she has struck out 101 batters in 85.2 innings pitched.
The Cardinals are 15-20 on the season and are 2-7 in MAC play. Just like UB, their Tuesday doubleheader was canceled due to weather against Western Michigan. The Cardinals have lost seven straight games headed into the weekend. Offensively, they're led by McKayla Timmons who holds a .347 batting average. She also leads the team with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs. Francys King is 8-8 in the circle with a 3.63 ERA and 48 strikeouts.
Following this weekend, the Bulls will be on the road next weekend in Mount Pleasant, Mich. as they battle the Central Michigan Chippewas (6-21, 3-3 MAC).
