
Bulls To Compete In Three Meets This Weekend

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo Track and Field team is set to compete in three meets this weekend, the final competitions for preparation ahead of the outdoor MAC Championships on May 9th. The Bulls will compete in the University of Pennsylvania's Relays, the University of North Florida's East Coast Relays and St. John Fisher's Cardinal Classic.
Members of the men's distance team will be competing at the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, beginning on Thursday and ending on Saturday.
On the opening night of the competition, the Bulls will compete in the 1,500 meter run. The Buffalo men have had success with the event throughout the outdoor season, with Ryan Buzby joining the all-time outdoor ranks just a few weeks ago at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. The fifth year finished the 1,500 in 3:48.96, the fourth fastest time in UB outdoor history. Evan Hilbert is also set to compete in the event, the school's outdoor school record holder. Hilbert won the 1,500 meter and nearly broke his school record at the Bison Outdoor Classic, finishing just two seconds shy of the personal best mark
The Bulls will also compete in the men's distance medley relay on Friday and the men's 4x800 meter relay on Saturday.

Members of the track and field team are also competing at the East Coast Relays on Friday and Saturday. The Bulls begin competition at 12pm on Friday and conclude the meet on Saturday at 3pm.
Buffalo has several student-athletes competing in the East Coast Relays that have school-record-setting potential.
Indoor MAC Champion and indoor high jump school record holder Zahra Amos will compete in the women's high jump on Friday afternoon. Amos matched her personal best outdoor jump last weekend with a mark of 1.65 meters. The junior looks to climb the all-time ranks this weekend.
Angela Forster will also compete in the high jump alongside Amos. Forster tied Amos' personal best outdoor mark last Saturday at the UB Alumni Invite, joining the all-time outdoor school leaderboard. The junior is set to compete in the on Friday night in the 200 meter dash too. Forster won the women's 100 meter at the UB Alumni Invite, finishing with a time of 14.17, a time that ranks fourth all-time in UB outdoor history.
Caleb Nickens will compete in the men's hammer throw on Friday at noon. The graduate student's personal best throw (60.92m) ranks third in outdoor school history, less than four meters shy of the school record. Nickens nearly matched his personal best mark at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational, with a throw of 60.12 meters. The graduate student won the hammer throw last week at the UB Alumni Invitational with a mark of 58.41 meters.
Freshman Aleksandra Szulska set the 5,000 meter school record just a few weeks ago at the Bison Outdoor Classic, finishing in 16:43.52 and breaking the previous record by nine seconds. The freshman is expected to make her debut in the women's 1,500 meter run on Friday night.
Tal Hamel is set to compete in the men's 400 meter dash on Saturday afternoon. The junior has the fastest time among Buffalo's men in the 400 meter, finishing in 48.08 at the Texas State Bobcat Invite earlier in the outdoor season, a time that ranks eighth all-time in UB outdoor history. Hamel also recently moved up the all-time leaderboard in the men's 200 meter with a time of 21.09, winning the event and holding the second-fastest time in outdoor history.
Freshman Manuel Sepulveda will compete in two events this weekend, the long jump on Friday and the triple jump on Saturday. Sepulveda set a new personal best outdoor triple jump mark of 14.86 meters at the Bison Outdoor Classic, ranking seventh in school history and third in the Mid-American Conference.

The final group of Bulls competing this weekend will do so at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic on Saturday. The meet begins at 9:30 am with throwing events and is scheduled to end at 5:40 pm with the final event of the day being the men's 4x800 meter. Buffalo will compete alongside several local universities.
