Kwak Qualifies For NCAA Diving Championships In Two Events

PRINCETON, N.J. – Divers from the University at Buffalo Swimming & Diving team participated in NCAA Zone Diving Championships this week on the campus of Princeton University, having the opportunity to qualify for next week's NCAA Diving Championships. Marialis Kwak did just that, earning her spot in the championships in both one-meter and three-meter diving for the second straight season.
Kwak first qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships on Monday with a third-place finish in the one-meter event, placing third in the finals with a score of 586.75. The junior took third in the preliminary round too (292.95). Kwak continued her momentum on Tuesday, qualifying for the three-meter diving championships with a score of 626.15 and a second-place finish. The junior placed 10th in the preliminary round (278.25).
Kwak will represent the Bulls in the NCAA Diving Championships next week in Athens, Georgia, with the competitions beginning Wednesday.
Victoria Franz missed the championship qualifying mark in one-meter diving on Monday with a seventh-place finish in the finals round and a score of 556.50. Franz placed eighth in the preliminary round (266.85). Presley Dorsett (11th, 524.80) also competed in the finals for Buffalo, earning her spot with a tenth-place finish in the preliminary round (264.65). MAC Freshman of the Year Sophie Meuwissen competed in the prelims too, placing 45th with a score of 227.45.
Dorsett competed in the finals again for the Bulls in three-meter diving on Tuesday, missing the championship mark with a 16th place finish (526.00). The junior finished 13th in the preliminary round with a score of 271.85. Franz (19th, 259.65), Mallory Hanna (20th, 259.40) and Kaylee Donovan (24th, 257.30) participated in the preliminary round, missing the finals cut of the top 18 divers.
The Bulls opened the weekend with a team diving event on Sunday, competing against the University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech University, the University of Connecticut and Liberty University. Buffalo's divers placed fourth of the five schools with a score of 260.55.
