Kwak To Compete In NCAA Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo Swimming & Diving Team is sending Marialis Kwak to the NCAA Championships this week, with competitions beginning on Wednesday and running through the weekend on the University of Georgia's campus in Athens. The junior will compete in one-meter diving on Thursday and three-meter diving on Friday. Diving trials begin each day at 12:15pm, with the finals commencing at 6pm. The consolation finals for diving start at 5:15pm.
Kwak qualified for the NCAA Championships in one-meter and three-meter diving last week at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship, finishing top three in both events among a field of 79 divers. The junior first qualified in the one-meter, placing third with a score of 586.75. The next day Kwak qualified in the three-meter with a second-place finish and a score of 556.50.
The junior has participated in the NCAA Championships once before, qualifying for the one-meter and three-meter last season. Kwak finished 31st in the one-meter (244.35) and 41st in the three-meter (243.85).
The week prior to qualifying for the NCAA Championships, the junior took first place at MAC Championships in both diving events. Kwak became the third Buffalo diver to win two MAC titles at the same MAC Championship. The junior earned First Team All-MAC honors and was awarded the MAC's Most Outstanding Diver for her performances over the weekend. Kwak set a new personal best in the one-meter at conference championships too, with a score of 313.00, ranking third all-time in school history.
