Bulls Defeat Lindenwood Lions in Final Game of the Cardinal Classic, 10-1

SAN ANTONIO β The University at Buffalo softball team (3-2, 0-0 MAC) closed out the Cardinal Classic in winning fashion on Sunday afternoon as they defeated the Lindenwood Lions, 10-1.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second off an error. The Bulls, however, answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Sara Kelly doubled to left center, driving in Julia Tarantino and moving Lily Lauck to third. Alyssa Wasielewski walked to give a bases loaded opportunity to Madison Fernimen. Fernimen would clear the bases with a single, giving Buffalo a 4-1 lead.

Buffalo padded their lead in the third as Tarantino drove home Alexis Lucyshyn. Tianna Williams hit a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Mia Mitchell to score. Kelly ripped home Tarantino to give Buffalo a 7-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Bulls scored three runs on just two hits. After a Fernimen single and Abbey Nagel walk, Lucyshyn doubled to right field scoring Fernimen. Tarantino walked to put the bases loaded. In back-to-back at bats, Williams and Lauck were hit by pitches forcing in two runs. The Bulls led 10-1 headed to the top of the fifth with a potential mercy win.

Lucychyn shut the door on the Lions, striking out two batters in the fifth. In total, she finished with six strikeouts and just four hits allowed.

The Bulls are back in action on Friday in Stephenville, Texas for the Tarleton State Invitational.
