Bulls Split Day One Competition at Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University at Buffalo softball team (4-3, 0-0 MAC) split their double header at the Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational on Friday. In the first game of the day, Buffalo shutout the Mississippi State Valley Delta Devils, 6-0. In their second game, the Bulls fell to the Idaho State Bengals, 4-0.
GAME 1 VS. MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE
The Bulls had another dominant pitching performance by reigning MAC Pitcher of the Week Alexis Lucyshyn. Lucyshyn threw her second complete game shutout of the season as she struck out 10 Delta Devils.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the first with Abbey Nagel scoring off a pass ball. Buffalo didn't add to their lead until the third inning when Lucychyn singled to left field scoring Madison Fernimen to take a 2-0 lead.
The Bulls' consistent offense continued throughout the game as they padded their lead. Sara Kelly singled in the fourth as Tianna Williams scored. Leading 3-0, Fernimen drove Kelly in to extend their lead to 4-0.
Lucyshyn opened the fifth inning with a double to left center. She wasn't on the bases long as Mia Mitchell then hit a double of her own scoring Lucyshyn. Up 5-0, Williams hit a sacrifice fly to score Mitchell.
Buffalo shutdown the Delta Devils in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 6-0 win.
Lucyshyn and Mitchell each had two hits and one RBI.
GAME 2 VS. IDAHO STATE
In game two of the Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational, the Bulls faced the Idaho State Bengals. The Bulls faced a buzzsaw on the mound for the Bengals. The Bulls couldn't muster much offense as they finished with just two hits in the affair. Idaho State won, 4-0, but the Bulls and Bengals will square off against tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.
The Bulls will start tomorrow's action against Lafayette at 10:30 a.m.
