BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team looks to add another tally to the win column before the holiday break as they host Vermont on Thursday in an afternoon matinee at Alumni Arena at 1pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Jared Zeidman (color) announcing and can be heard on ESPN 1520 and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is just the second overall meeting between Buffalo and Vermont with the last matchup coming on New Year's Day in 1992, UB's first season as a Division I member. Buffalo is 13-7 all-time against opponents from the America East Conference after beating Binghamton earlier this month.
In a battle between the two flagship institutions in the State of New York, Buffalo came out on top in a 72-55 win over Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon. Three Bulls scored in double figures, led by Chellia Watson who scored 14 points, including the 1,500th point of her career, and Alexis Davis who was one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Fifth year Noelani Cornfield also scored in double figures with 13 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Bulls, who are currently ranked sixth in the Mid-Major Top 25, have four players averaging in double figures on the season, led by Watson who is averaging 19.3 points per game. Terah Harness (11.4 ppg) and Kirsten Lewis-Williams (11.2 ppg) are also averaging in double figures Davis is nearly averaging a double-double at 10.3 ppg and 8.0 rpg, while Cornfield is averaging 9.6 points per contest while leading the team in assists (43).
As a team, the Bulls lead the league in scoring offense (78.2), scoring defense (53.3), scoring margin (+24.9), field goal percentage (.454), field goal defense (.361), 3FG defense (.250), assists (163) and turnover margin (+8.8) while also ranking in the top three in rebounding (41.0), steals per game (11.2) and free throw percentage (.749).
The Vermont Catamounts are 5-7 overall after falling to Quinnipiac 68-63 on Sunday. The Catamounts were picked to finish third in the America East preseason coaches poll after reaching the 20-win mark for the third straight season, including an America East championship appearance and WNIT semifinal berth, the longest postseason run of any men or women's America East basketball team. Preseason All-Conference selection Anna Olson leads the Seawolves offensively with 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. 2024 Sixth Player of the Year Keira Hanson (10.4 ppg) is also averaging in double figures while Bella Vito is leading the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg) and Catherine Gilwee leads the squad with 49 assists.

They also rank in the top three in the league in field goal percentage (.449), 3FG percentage (.323), defensive rebounding (28.3) and blocks per game (2.8). The Catamounts have been road warriors this season as they are one of 25 teams in the NCAA this season to have a road trip of 20 days or more, including 21-day road trip that saw them cover over 9600 miles, which took them to Dartmouth, Alaska, Cancun, and Bucknell.
Up next, Buffalo will take a break for the holidays before closing out non-conference action on Saturday, December 28 at Le Moyne.
