Bulls Face off Against Niagara on Tuesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (5-0) continues Big 4 action on Tuesday as they face off against the Niagara Purple Eagles in a 6pm contest at the Gallagher Center.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Vinnie Christiano (play-by-play) and Sue Petronsky (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 47th overall meeting between Buffalo and Canisius with the Bulls owning a 29-17 series advantage. UB has won five won straight meetings, most recently a 92-75 win at Alumni Arena last season.
Buffalo defeated crosstown rival Canisius 62-70 on Friday night. Five Bulls scored in double figures, led by fifth year guard Chellia Watson who scored 12 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Fellow fifth year Noelani Cornfield stuffed the stat sheet for the second straight game as she scored 11 points while adding eight rebounds, five assists and a career-high eight steals. Also scoring in double figures were Kirsten Lewis-Williams with 11 points and Alexis Davis and Terah Harness added 10 points each.
The Bulls have three players averaging in double figures on the season, led by Watson who is leading the team in scoring (21.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.6 rpg). Lewis-Williams is averaging 11.6 points per game while Cornfield is averaging 11.0 points per contest while leading the team and the conference in assists (33).
The Niagara Purple Eagles are 0-4 overall after falling to Duquesne 100-65 on November 16. The Purple Eagles were picked to finish tied for third in the MAAC preseason coaches poll after notching their first NCAA Division I era postseason win as they defeated Le Moyne in the first round of the WNIT last season. Amelia Strong leads Niagara offensively as she is averaging 11.3 points per game while Safiatu Killiegbo (10.8 ppg) and Marlie Dickerson (10.0 ppg) are also averaging in double figures, the latter leading the team in rebounding (4.3 rpg).
Niagara added four freshmen to the roster along with four transfers, however none with D1 collegiate playing experience. The Purple Eagles have a challenging non-conference slate as they will take on five teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24. Aaliyah Parker was named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team after averaging 12.2 points per game while recording 98 steals a year ago. It is Parker's third All-MAAC honor. She has yet to make an appearance this season. The Purple Eagles led the nation with 27.5 turnovers forced last season and they are continuing to wreak havoc on opposing offenses as they are currently ranked in the top 20 nationally with 25.5 turnovers forced per contest.
