BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming & diving team is set to compete this weekend in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium at Marshall University. The head-to-head meet will take place over two days, beginning on Friday at 4 pm and resuming on Saturday at 10 am.
The Bulls are 2-2 all-time against the Thundering Herd. The two programs went head-to-head last January in the Alumni Arena Natatorium, with Marshall taking the meet, 212.0-157.0. Since then, the Thundering Herd have welcomed eight new freshmen to their program, with the Bulls taking in five newcomers.
Isabella Forsman has been strong for the Bulls early on in her freshman campaign, earning four individual event wins throughout the first two meets of the season. Last Saturday against Eastern Michigan, Forsman won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.47. The freshman later won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.96. Forsman also took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.49, setting a collegiate personal record.
Graduate student Mia Naccarella has continued her success in the backstroke events early this season, taking both the 100-yard backstroke (55.07) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.59) against Eastern Michigan. Naccarella also won the 100-yard backstroke against Cornell with a time of 55.55.
Grace Rider and Ava Pauly have become a strong duo in the breaststroke events for the Bulls. Against Cornell, Rider won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.07 as Pauly trailed close behind with a time of 30.70 for second place. The two have combined for three second and third-place finishes in breaststroke events this season, earning 14 points for Buffalo against Eastern Michigan last Saturday.
The program has remained dominant in the diving well this year. In the opening meet of the season, the Bulls took the top six spots in one-meter diving and the top five spots in the three-meter. The team had a repeat performance against Eastern Michigan, earning all five of the top five spots in the three-meter and the top four placements in the one-meter.
2023-2024 MAC Diver of the Year Marialis Kwak has won all four diving events the Bulls have competed in this season. Kwak also qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the season-opening meet against Cornell with a score of 306.38 in the one-meter and 300.15 in three-meter diving.
The Bulls continue the 2024-25 season at 4 pm in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium where they take on Marshall. More information for this weekend's competition can be accessed here.
