Bulls Host the Kent State Golden Flashes in Weekend Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (5-10, 1-1 MAC) will host the Kent State Golden Flashes (1-11, 0-2 MAC) on Friday and Saturday. Friday's match will start at 6 p.m. with the first 200 fans receiving free mac and cheese for Buffalo's "Return of the MAC." Saturday's match will start at 4 p.m.
The all-time series against Kent State has been in favor of the Golden Flashes. They lead the series, 36-19, but the Bulls have won five of the last six meetings including the last four. In three of the last four wins, Buffalo has swept Kent State.
The Golden Flashes were picked 12th in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 15 points. Last season they finished with a 6-23 overall record.
Buffalo is back at home in Alumni Arena for their first MAC matches of the season. The Bulls are the only MAC program that's still undefeated at home.
The Bulls are coming off a weekend split at Western Michigan. After dropping Friday's match, the Bulls swept the Broncos on Saturday for their first win in University Arena since Oct. 12, 2018. In the victory, the Bulls handed the Broncos their first conference loss since Oct. 15, 2022, when they lost to the Toledo Rockets, 3-1. The last time the Broncos were swept at home in MAC play was on Oct. 23, 2021, against the Ball State Cardinals. This also marked Buffalo's first time sweeping the Broncos.
After her weekend performances, Mandy Leigh earned MAC Setter of the Week honors on Monday. This was her 15th MAC weekly honor in her career, the most in program history. In conference play, Leigh leads the MAC with 74 total assists and 12.33 assists per set. She is also first in aces and aces per set, with five and 0.83, respectively. She had a career-high four aces against the Broncos on Saturday. Leigh also holds the top mark with assists in a three-set match with 38. On the weekend, the Bulls had a hitting percentage of .249. She added three kills and four total blocks to go with her 10.0 points and 15 digs.
Abby Leigh continues to stay in the national rankings with a .385 attack percentage. With the second-best mark in the MAC, she's behind Alexis Mettille of Bowling Green who holds a .417 hitting percentage.
Following this weekend the Bulls will hit the road for a three-match stretch. They'll start at Akron (5-9, 1-1 MAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
