Bulls Open Road Swing at Central Michigan on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY β The University at Buffalo women's basketball continues Mid-American Conference play with a two-game road trip, beginning at Central Michigan on Saturday at 1pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Riley Edwards (play-by-play) and Matt Jacobs (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1400 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 36th overall meeting between Buffalo and Central Michigan with the Chippewas owning a 19-16 series advantage. The teams split a pair of contests last season, with each squad winning on their home floor.
Buffalo put forth a valiant second half effort, but the comeback fell short in a 73-64 loss to Kent State to open MAC play on Wednesday evening. Redshirt senior Chellia Watson set a new UB career-high with 31 points to lead all scorers while freshman Alexis Davis narrowly missed out on a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior Rana Elhusseini also scored in double figures with 11 points, including 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
Watson leads the Bulls and the MAC in scoring at 22.0 points per game while also recording 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Lewis-Williams currently ranks 13th in the MAC in scoring (12.0 ppg) and 11th in rebounding (6.1 rpg), which is first among all rookies in the league in both categories. Elhusseini (9.5 ppg, 3.1 apg) and sophomore Hattie Ogden (9.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg) continue to be impact players for UB.
As a team, Buffalo is ranked in the top three in the MAC in scoring defense (63.4), field goal percentage (.427), field goal defense (.377) and three-point field goal percentage (.337). The Bulls are averaging 32.0 points per game in the paint while also scoring 11.0 ppg in transition, and are turning defense into offense, averaging 16 points per contest off opponent's turnovers.
The Central Michigan Chippewas are 1-9 overall and 0-1 in league action after falling to Bowling Green 65-64 in the MAC opener on Wednesday. The Chippewas are led offensively by Madisen Wardell who is averaging 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Nadege Jean (8.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg) and Rochelle Norris (8.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg) are also main contributors. Jean leads all MAC players that average at least six field goal attempts per game in field goal percentage at 53.8%. Karrington Gordon has scored in double figures in five of the last six games.
Central Michigan leads the MAC with 4.7 blocks per game, which ranks 42nd among NCAA I programs. Norris is second in the league in blocks per game (1.7) and total blocks (17). CMU also leads the MAC in three rebounding categories: rebounding margin (+4.3), rebounds per game (42.9) and offensive rebounds per game (15.0), with the latter two ranking in the top-40 in the nation. The Chippewas have outrebounded six of 10 opponents this season, including four straight, and have recorded double-digit offensive rebound totals in every game.
Up next, Buffalo will close out the road swing in Muncie with a clash against the Ball State Cardinals on Wednesday, January 10. Tipoff from Worthen Arena is set for 6:30pm.
