ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo cross country team competed at the Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday morning, hosted by the University of Rochester. The Bulls placed 4th of 20 total teams in the men's 8k with 130 points, and the women finished 10th of 21 teams in the women's 6k with 259 points.
Evan Hilbert led the way for the men, placing 18th with a time of 26:04.6. Freshman Chris Turner (31st, 26:24.4) and sophomore Gabe Watson, (33rd, 26:29.1) soon followed, with Kornel Smith (46th, 26:54.4) and Johann Matzal (54th, 27:03.5) rounding out the top five for Buffalo.
"The men went out controlled and raced hard over the last two miles," said coach Todd Witzleben. "It was a great first 8k meet for the freshman and our 800m runners."
On the women's side, freshman Brianna Carter was the first finisher for the Bulls, completing the course 6k in 23:41.2 and placing 33rd. Senior Alexia Hecico finished soon after, placing 51st (24:14.12), with Elizabeth Powers (76th, 24:47.2), Megan Smith (82nd, 24:52.9) and Chloe Freeland (90th, 25:07.8) completing the top five for Buffalo.
