Akron Takes Game One of Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (10-23, 4-5 MAC) fell to the Akron Zips (20-15, 8-7 MAC) on Tuesday afternoon, 4-1. This marked the first time this season the Bulls played on their home field, Nan Harvey Field.
In the bottom of the first inning, Alexis Lucyshyn put the Bulls on the board with a solo home run to right center. This would be the only offense the Bulls could conger up as they finished with three hits, three walks, and one hit by pitch. Seven Bulls were stranded on the basepaths compared to Akron's three.
The lead didn't last long as Akron scored two runs in the top of the second inning off a throwing error. The Zips added to their lead in the fourth with a solo home run to left field. In the sixth inning, they scored an insurance run to make it a 4-1 ball game.
Lucyshyn went the distance in the circle allowing four runs, one earned run, two walks, and 8 strikeouts.
Abbey Nagel led the team with two hits with a single and double. Brianna Castro added a single in the seventh.
The Bulls and Zips will wrap up their series tomorrow with a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
