Bulls Split Double Header Against Queens

CLINTON, S.C. β The University at Buffalo softball team (5-12, 0-0 MAC) split their double header against Queens University of Charlotte (8-7, 0-0 ASun) on Saturday at the PC Invitational.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Bulls dropped a tight contest to the Royals in their first of two games on Saturday, 2-0. Going the distance in the circle was Alexis Lucyshyn. Pitching 7.0 innings, she gave up one earned run while striking out 11.

The Royals scored their first run in the third inning off an RBI single. In the sixth inning, they added an insurance run to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bulls could only muster four hits on the afternoon, two of which came in the first inning. Tianna Williams singled to the outfield, then Lucyshyn doubled. Both runners would get stranded keeping it a 0-0 game. In the bottom of the sixth, Abbey Nagel had a leadoff double, but the Bulls went 1-2-3 leaving her on second base. Mia Mitchell had a leadoff single in Buffalo's last ups, but the Bulls struggled to have timely hitting.

GAME 2 RECAP
In game two of the double header, Buffalo won the game to close out their competition in South Caroline, 4-3. Freshman Emily Watters picked up her first win of her collegiate career as she pitched a complete game. In the win, she allowed two earned runs and six hits, while striking out three.

The Royals scored the first run of the game in the second inning on a double. With runners on second and third, the Bulls got out of the jam with Queens leading 1-0. In the top of the third, Mia Mitchell hit a two-run homer with Lucyshyn on base. The lead didn't last long as the Royals tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Buffalo scored the next two runs of the game to take a 4-2 lead. Mitchell scored her second run of the game in the fifth inning on a Brianna Castro single. Mitchell stayed hot as she ripped in Lily Lauck as the Bulls' added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Royals scored a run with two outs to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Their comeback fell short as they would end the game on a ground out.

The Bulls are back in action Friday at the Red Raider Classic hosted by Texas Tech.
