
School Record Falls as Bulls Finish Day One of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams concluded day one of the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University on Thursday. The Bulls opened the 2023 outdoor season with a new school record and several personal best marks.
DISTANCE
In the men's 5000-meters, Ryan Buzby set a personal best with a time of 14:03.84, breaking his own school record by 9-seconds and placing 33rd in a 205-man field. Buzby was the MAC's top finisher in the event, and his time currently ranks first in the conference. Junior Alex Hislop finished ninth in his heat and 161st overall with a time of 14:46.20, just four seconds shy of his personal best.
Evan Hilbert placed 12th in his heat in the men's 1500-meters, running 3:53.47.
THROWS
Teasha McKoy placed 14th out of 41 competitors in the women's shot put with a distance of 46'4.25"/14.13 meters. Combined event specialist Scilla Benussi finished 12th in the women's javelin with a distance of 138'11"/42.35 meters. McKoy's and Benussi's scores rank second and first, respectively, in the MAC.
On the men's side, senior Danil Chernov placed 26th in the javelin with a mark of 178-8"/54.46 meters. Alex McNulty recorded a throw of 156'4"/47.67 meters.
The Bulls shined in the men's shot put, as the trio of Jonathan Surdej, Mark Przybocki, and Quinn Smith opened the outdoor season with big marks. Surdej advanced to the finals, placing ninth with a throw of 55'5"/16.89 meters. Przybocki set an outdoor personal mark of 51'10"/16.10 meters, and Smith set a new lifetime best of 51'5.75"/15.69 meters.

Day Two will feature the women's triple jump with Kaylah Britt and Emily Tait, the Women's Discus Throw with Teasha McKoy, and the Men's Discus throw with Quinn Smith and Mike Wolford.
On the track, the Bulls will compete in the women's 100-meter hurdles (Benussi), men's 110-meter hurdles (Chineme Ononiwu, Michael Parks, and Kevin Gabalski), 100-meter dash (Jean Desir), and 400-meter dash (Tal Hamel).
