KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team finished out weekend action on Sunday with a 5-2 loss at Western Michigan.
The Broncos began the afternoon with 6-3 wins at second and third doubles. UB's first doubles team of Simon Wibler and Finn Macnamara were locked in a tight battle, 6-5, when play was stopped.
Western Michigan took a 2-0 lead with a win at fourth singles before Aleksandr Kalinin got Buffalo on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at first singles. Macnamara provided UB's second final point as he overcame a dropped second set to win a hard-fought third set tie breaker at the fifth position.
Sophomore Cheng Tang was the next closest match for the Bulls as he battled back from a dropped first set to win the second 6-2 and force a third set but he came up just short, falling 10-8 in the tiebreaker and the Broncos clinched the match in wins at third and sixth singles.
UB remains on the road next weekend for a match at Binghamton on Saturday, March 18 at 1pm.
